NVIDIA is preparing to release a GeForce GTX 660 SE according to some unrevealed sources over in China. This card reportedly competes with the Radeon HD 7850, it promises performance between the GeForce GTX 650 Ti and GeForce GTX 660. If released the card would have 768 shader cores, down from 960 on the GeForce GTX 660, and has a core clockspeed of 928MHz (vs 960MHz). Some benchmarks are posted after the break.

Lenovo spills beans with AMD Radeon HD 8950 3GB card
Lenovo is showing the Erazer X700 at the Consumer Electronics show. It is a new gaming desktop PC that will be released in June for around $1,499. One of the interesting things is that the specification sheet of this gaming PC lists the yet-to-be-released AMD Radeon HD 8950 3GB graphics card as one of the system’s configuration options. Other features of the system include an Intel Core i7 Extreme series processor, up to 16GB DDR3, various HDD storage options, a Blu-ray drive and DVD burner, optional 7.1 channel surround audio, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, USB 3.0, and a 9-in-1 memory card slot.
The system can be configured with dual-graphics, it supports up to dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or up to dual AMD Radeon HD 8950. The latter model is expected to be introduced later this quarter.
Two options: with NVIDIA SLI of two GeForce GTX 660’s or AMD’s Crossfire with two Radeon HD 8950’s. Furthermore we learn that it will have 3GB of memory, which means it will have the same frame buffer as its predecessor Radeon HD 7950.
This is actually all we know for now, so our need for more valid information will have to wait. What we do expect however is a new 28nm GPU with the updated Graphics Core Next technology. What has been said for now is that it may have up to 2048 Stream processors, but if that’s not the case, then we might see at least more raster operating units.
In an article by published by 3DCenter.org new Codenames of AMD’s Sea Islands & Solar Systems habe been cleared up a little. To begin with, the “Solar System” family are AMD’s Radeon HD 8000M series mobile-GPUs. The “Sea Islands” line of GPUssre AMD’s desktop discrete GPU lineup, the Radeon HD 8000 series. AMD’s Radeon HD 8000 series introduces refinements to its Graphics CoreNext micro-architecture, marked by the press as “GCN2.” Not all parts are based on GCN2, with the already-announced Radeon HD 8000M “Mars” GPU being based on older GCN micro-architecture. The codenames for both lines are listed after the break:.
8 Core SandyBridge-E and 6-12 core IvyBridge-E in 2013
Yet another Intel roadmap has leaked onto the web. This one should please the more enthusiast users alright. There are two main upcoming product launches, with the more interesting one being the 4th generation Ivy Bridge-E CPUs for its HEDT platform, slated for Q3 2013 Legit reviews reports: These will bring all the improvements found in the current Ivy Bridge CPUs such as 22nm Tri-Gate transistors and greater overall efficiency and performance to Intel’s premium enthusiast platform. IB-E will feature 6-12 cores (IB-E/EP) large amounts of cache, quad channel memory controllers supporting 8 GB of DDR3-1066/1333/1600/1866 per DIMM slot, along with PCI-E 3.0 (40 lanes) and 4 lanes supporting PCI-E 2.0. It’s believed that four CPUs will be launched, bearing the following names: Core i7-4930, Core i7-4960, Core i7-4970 and Core i7-4990.
The CPUs will be compatible with the Socket LGA 2011 and X79 chipset platform and while the clock speeds and TDP aren’t known, the TDP is expected to be around the current Sandy Bridge-E level. One can only hope that the inferior heatspreader that current Ivy Bridge CPUs are saddled with causing them to run hotter and significantly reducing overclocking ability will be replaced for the extreme enthusiast grade IB-E CPUs by the superior soldered one found on the earlier Sandy Bridge CPUs. It would be a slap in the face to customers paying so much money for a premium product otherwise.
The other product launch will be better versions of the current Sandy Bridge-E chips, slated for Q2 2013. These are expected to feature higher clock speeds, but the most interesting part will be the first 8 core consumer CPU from Intel, the Core i7-3980X Extreme Edition. Expect to pay dearly for it.
